HUNGARIAN CULTURAL WEEK

The recent years have seen a period of intensified political and economic relations between the Republic of Ghana and Hungary. Within the framework of Hungary’s foreign policy strategy called Opening to the South, Ghana has gained a prominent place, as also testified by the reopening of the Hungarian Embassy in Accra in April 2016.

Accordingly, a large-scale national image campaign entitled Hungarian Cultural Week will be launched between 11-18 March. The main pillar of the Week is a Hungarian–Ghanaian music festival with the cooperation of Sena Dagadu, the well-known Hungarian-Ghanaian singer and her band. (Sena is the daughter of Benjamin Dagadu, Deputy Minister of Oil, and Alumni student of Hungary.) Approximately twenty Hungarian musicians led by Sena would perform both in Accra and in various rural locations.

The other venue of the unique series of events during the Hungarian Cultural Week will be held in the Kempinski Hotel Gold Coast City Accra from 11th – 16th March. The aim is to present our country, our cultural heritage, just like our gastronomy and touristic opportunities. As a result of this, the concert of Sena Dagadu on 16 March in the Ballroom of Kempinski would have special importance.

Within this framework the promotion of Hungarian flavors and premium products play a significant role, therefore a Hungarian chef employed by the Kempinski chain itself would create Hungarian menu during the whole course of the week in the hotel’s restaurant. Sausages and foie gras will be served as appetizer, followed by three typical main courses and two types of desserts.

Hungarian wineries will introduce their wines and spirits, therefore representatives of food chains and catering establishments of the capital city will be invited to attend the event. The gastronomic experience will be completed by live music: members of the band of Sena Dagadu would perform folk music and create a traditional Hungarian ambiance.

Entries to some of the events are open to all whiles others are by invitation only.  For further details about any of the events contact David Bekesi via david.bekesi@mfa.gov.hu
